Aluminum (Al)

This metallic element is the most abundant in the earth's crust, but is found only in combination with other ores, chiefly in bauxite. Having good conductive and thermal properties, it is used to form over 100 hard, light, corrosion-resistant alloys. Aluminum became broadly obtainable and relatively inexpensive only after the discovery, little more than a century ago, of how to distill it by electrolytic reduction. Global refined production of primary aluminum tops 19 million metric tonnes annually. Capital Asset investors can place aluminum in their accounts in units of 5 metric tonnes.

Even though aluminium rallied on some fund buying and recorded its best week in many months, prices remain in the trading range we have been following for some time now -- $2600/mt to $2950/mt. A review of the LME warehouse stocks of aluminium for the last year shows a better than 9% jump in supplies; meanwhile, Alcoa recently (June 15) revised its aluminium supply/demand outlook and now expects a global aluminium supply surplus of 300,000 metric tons in 2007. In my opinion, trading opportunities in aluminium appear to be limited at the present time and clients are advised to stand aside...
